Day 331/365 of Steel – Jordi Fernández

Jordi Díez Fernández was born on March 5, 1966 in Valladolid, Spain. He graduated with a degree in Fine Art and honors in sculpture. Having mastered working with diverse materials such as stone, terracotta, wood and iron, he has been sculpting predominantly with stainless steel since 2007, developing a technique using stainless steel electro-welded elements, lending an unmistakable style to his work.

This highly expressive form of figurative art uses modern technology, establishing a balance between old and new. Figurative expression, especially in the human form, is the focus of his work. His sculptures are exclusively made of steel, which provides a distinctive brightness.

When it comes to describe his work, I prefer to quote the artist:

“The human being possesses everything… For me it is an infinite subject. When creating steel sculptures, only the essentials are needed to express a figure. Thus, the figure is placed on the borders of reality, filling the air with rods spread in all directions, with some dense and tangible zones coexisting with open, ethereal and barely present spaces. I invite you on a journey to experience my great passion for figurative art, and explore my sculptures and monuments of steel, as well my earlier works made with terracotta, stone, wood and iron.”
